Things to Do

Lake Lure provides a variety of family and solo activities for those that love the great outdoors!

Boating

Boating on Lake Lure is reserved primarily for the enjoyment and benefit of residents.  With 21 miles of shoreline, there is plenty of room for skiing yet many quiet coves for canoeing and kayaking.  Town residents are permitted up to three boats.  Marina rentals and boat rentals are also available in the area.  Click here for information on town permits.

Fishing

Lake Lure’s 720 acres are filled with cool mountain water from the Rocky Broad River, making it an ideal location for lake and stream fishing.  With 21 miles of shoreline and over 100 feet at the deepest point, Lake Lure offers outstanding fishing opportunities for large and small mouth bass, white bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill and perch.  The nearby Rocky Broad River provides outstanding fly-fishing for rainbow and brown trout.

Hiking & Exploring

Western North Carolina has spectacular scenery, parks, waterfalls, and trails, offering many beautiful areas to explore - several just minutes away from Blue Heron Point.  Chimney Rock State Park gets 250,000 visitors a year, and you will understand why when you climb to the top and experience the 75 mile views overlooking the Gorge.  There is also a day trail just minutes away from Blue Heron Point that will take you up nearby Rumbling Bald Mountain.  For a more leisurely stroll, try the Donald Ross Nature Trail just a few short miles away.  For more ideas on places to explore in and around the area, click here
